I painted this mural at Vassar Elementary School in Aurora, Colorado as a joyful visual centerpiece for the school community. Inspired by the local landscape and the curiosity of young learners, the artwork blends the school mascot with playful animals, vibrant mountains, and a soaring Swainson’s hawk. I intentionally chose the Swainson’s hawk instead of the more commonly used prairie hawk to more accurately represent species native to Colorado and give students a stronger connection to the wildlife in their own region. Created to nurture belonging, pride, and imagination, the mural welcomes students each day with color, energy, and positivity—transforming a once-blank wall into a meaningful public space that celebrates learning, creativity, and community. The project was supported by Street Wise Arts of Boulder.
