Limelight Hotel Project

In these works, I reflect on the fragility of Colorado’s ecosystems through the lens of its wildlife. Flatirons Refuge, Where the Snowline Recedes, and Crimson Rain Serenade feature iconic species, the buffalo and the elk, set against abstracted, layered landscapes that symbolize the environmental changes reshaping their habitats.

Using collage as both medium and metaphor, I combine photographic images of animals with fractured, vibrant backgrounds. This contrast highlights the tension between the grounded presence of these creatures and the instability of the land they inhabit. The abstracted terrain speaks to climate shifts, habitat loss, and the adaptive pressure placed on wildlife in the face of human-driven change.

These pieces are part of my ongoing practice exploring animals as witnesses, beings who carry the memory of what once was, and who persist in a world rapidly transforming around them.

The Greenbelt Equation and Ceiling of the City collages honor physicist Al Bartlett and his lasting influence on Boulder’s approach to growth, land use, and sustainability. Greenbelt Equation highlights Bartlett’s advocacy for preserving open space, while Ceiling of the City reflects his broader warnings about unchecked development and the illusion of infinite growth.

Using collage and abstraction, I combine photographed figures with fragmented, symbolic urban landscapes to explore how human choices reshape the environments we share. These works invite viewers to reflect on what we preserve, what we build, and the quiet voices that urge us to live within our limits.
